DESCRIPTION

Smith Memorial Park is a beautiful lakeside park and campground in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. It is situated on 92 acres and is owned and run by the Town of Hector in Schuyler County. Smith Park operations include a campground, boat launch, trails, buildings, parking areas, natural areas, and other park facilities. The Park Manager reports directly to the Town Board in addition to coordinating with two other part-time park staff, Town Hall staff and private contractors.

Duties include:

• managing camping reservations & collecting fees

• answering inquiries, supporting and regulating visitor activity

• purchasing supplies

• basic housekeeping and bathhouse cleaning

• coordinating with other departments and private contractors

• scheduling and creating agenda for Park Committee meetings

• preparing records and reports

• preparing monthly department reports for Town Board meetings

• preparing annual budget

• maintaining operational licenses & permits

• basic marketing (social media, website, internet presence & affiliated organizations)

• community planning & events (as applicable)

• seeking grant opportunities

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicable Skills: communications, leadership, small business management, hospitality and service experience, planning, community organization, basic proficiency in data management via Microsoft Word/Excel and basic marketing.

Required Qualities: organized, responsible, community focused, practical, people person, problem solver and nature lover.

 

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

PAY: $34,500-$42,000/year + benefits

This position is salaried as a ¾ position averaging 30 hours a week year-round. Hours fluctuate from full-time in the warm season to part-time in the cold season. Average hours per week are based on current park operations as primarily a campground which creates a full schedule from May through October. April and November focus on opening/closing of the campground and facility/project maintenance. December through March offer time to reevaluate, plan and reorganize.

Future expansion of the park includes a day-use area and community events that invite and increase use by the local community and general public. Although not necessary to fill the position, a self-motivated candidate with leadership in community development has the option to make this a full-time year-round position with commensurate full-time increased salary. Flexibility as to the degree of responsibility and timing of taking on that responsibility will be openly considered.
