Frequently Asked Questions

  • Smith Memorial Park is a public campground and day use park in Hector, NY. We offer daily and seasonal camping from May through October and day use for lake access, picnic areas, swim beach, boat launch and walking trails.

  • There is no charge for parking or visitation for day-use.

  • There are 3 accessing to the lakefront:

    1) Park in the lot in front of the office and take a short walk north (to the right when facing the lake) to the gated entrance. Walk down the moderately steep gravel road to the beach.

    2) Park in either parking lot and walk down the grassy path (called “The Green”) in the middle of the park across from the stop sign at the main entrance.

    3) Drive down to the boat launch. Parking at the boat launch is prioritized for boat launch users. Park in south parking lot 2-3 minutes away as needed.

  • Swimming is allowed when lifeguards are on duty. Check our swim beach tab for open hours.

    Our furry friends are not allowed to hang out on the swim beach itself, they are allowed to swim along the rest of the lakefront.

  • No, your non-motorized crafts do not require a boat launch fee. You may launch these at our boat launch, off of the green path in the center of the park, or even at the swim beach.

    Motorized watercraft must pay a launch fee at the office. $5 cash may be paid at the office (whether open or closed). The credit charge is $6 and is only available when the office is open.

  • Check-in: 1:00pm
    Check-out: 11:00am.

  • If the office is closed when you arrive, take the map with your name on it from the folder outside the office and head to your site.

  • Yes! Dump station use is free for our campers, and the dump station code is available upon request.

    The fee for non-campers is $20, payable when the park office is open (call ahead to ensure staff is on-site).

  • Yes, showers for non-campers are available when the park office is open for $6 credit or $5 cash.

  • Our refund policy is as follows:

    30+ DAYS FROM ARRIVAL: Full refund, minus a $30 non-refundable fee.

    15-29 DAYS FROM ARRIVAL: 50% refund.

    14 DAYS OR LESS: No refund. No exceptions.
